Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Variations
- Brown sugar - replace white sugar with brown.
- Maple - replace white sugar with maple syrup.
- Lemon - add 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind after straining.
Method
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Heat milk.
- Beat eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla together.
- Slowly add milk to the eggs.
- Strain into 6 (5 ounce) or 1 quart dish.
- Sprinkle cinnamon on top.
- Set dishes into a pan and fill the pan with hot water until it comes halfway up the level of the custard in the dishes.
- Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes.
- Remove pan from oven and transfer the dishes to a pan with lukewarm water to cool.
