Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup cold water (or more)
Method
- Mix salt in with flour in stand mixer using paddle attachment on low.
- Add shortening and mix on medium-low until a very coarse, dry crumb mixture forms.
- Add water, mix until a ragged dough forms. If any dry flour remains, add a bit more water.
- Separate dough into balls.
- Chill the dough in the fridge if it is not going to be used immediately.
- Roll each ball out into a circle on a well floured surface until the colour of the countertop is just starting to show through the dough.
- Transfer dough to pie plate.
- Bake according to directions in the filling recipe.
